... Tom Hawkins of Temple recently purchased the building to be the new home of his sign fabrication business. But, he also has another goal – bringing back the building’s original shape, when it was first built and used as the Greenville rail station.

“I didn’t really want to do my business in a restaurant, but it dawned on me that I could peel it back and get back to its original shape,” Hawkins said. “And I realized it’s a real gem.” ... READ MORE

Enfield MA Depot... Now Under the Quabbin Reservior

Enfield MA Railroad Station

This is a photograph of the Enfield MA depot.  Enfield was served by the Springfield, Athol & North Eastern, which later became a branch of the Boston & Albany railroad.  Trains stopped in 1935, and the official end of the Swift River Valley towns to be flooded was April 28, 1938.

POSTCARD VIEW: Dual Depots, Ayer MA circa 1905

In this view, we are looking east, with the B&M's Fitchburg line toward Boston at right, and the Worcester & Nashua heading north/south.  Note the ball signal, and the current tower near the site today has yet to be built.  There is also a building behind what is now Carlin's, along the line to Greenville NH.

Bedford MA B&M Depot Work Continues

The Boston & Maine station at Bedford MA has seen many alterations to its appearance through the years.  Currently, work is being done to return it to something much closer to the original design, while still being a usable rental space.  These photos were taken on August 24, 2014.  You can see where non-original windows have been removed and are being replaced with more period-correct ones.  All around the building are clues to the past...

More information can be found at the Friends of Bedford Depot Park website.

B&M East Buskirk NY Depot Demolished

While technically not part of New England, below is a photo taken by John "Cully" Cullinan of the old Boston & Maine East Buskirk NY depot. It was located next to the Guilford/PanAm Southern mainline and was once a whistle stop for westbound B&M passenger trains to Troy (and beyond).

On 9/18/13, the depot was demolished by the new property owner. One more vintage railroad structure gone...
